RGE Monitor's Newsletter - Nouriel Roubini - Chairman

On the Latin America EconoMonitor, Vitoria Saddi discuss the fiscal situation in Brazil and argues that the downturn in economic activity arising from the world financial crisis has had a negative impact on fiscal conditions – reducing tax revenues – since last November. However, these adverse effects were felt more strongly in January of this year. The consolidated public sector result in January was lower, thereby raising the public sector net debt. Although this movement was caused by the particular features of the period, such as the response to the tax exemptions, it shows how these indicators should perform in 2009.
